Let's Get Rich and Famous
Monica Panels Index

I've created about 24 pages of 6 panels each for the Monica comic, primarily to see if it was feasible to convert the text story to a web comic. Obvously, I'm convinced it can be. Most of them context of text, but I couldn't resist the occasional drawing. Some of the panels are VERY text-y and I would expect they might need to be broken down more. I'm hoping an artist can help me organize the story better for stronger visual impact and the need for less text.

I don't want or expect slavish devotion to the way the text panels are organized, they're just the best I could do as I worked the story out. I expect any artist to have a much better approach than I do to how the material should be organized for maximum graphic impact. You will not have to be very good at all to be a lot better than me.

Some housekeeping bits: The character referred to as "Ryo" in the strip is the same as "Joanie" in the text. I switched to "Joanie" because I figure she's at least second generation, more likely third generation American, and the name "Ryo" is too Japanese for that. Also, "AtlantaCon" is the same as "SciFiFunCon." A search on Google revealed that there is an actual "AtlantaCon" and I didn't want to be accused of using an actual event as the setting for my story. A search on Google reveals no SciFiFunCon.

I made the changes in the text rather than the image panels because image panels don't do search and replace. For much the same reason, where you encounter the text "zzz" it means I didn't have a name handy and it wasn't important, so I just placed "zzz" in there so I could search and replace later. Which you can't do with graphics.

You'll have to use the "back" button to return to this page to view each new panel. Or you can type in the number of the next page in your browser line starting with Panel 3 (panels 1 and 2 are not formatted exactly the same as the others). Also note, there is no panel 13. A guy's got to have his superstitions. These story panels do not cover nearly as much territory as there is in the text story. They end pretty much with the discussion Monica's parents have after watching her dance at the belly dance class end-of-term recital.
