What Should A Slave Girl Look Like?
Not-Really Slave Girls in Electric Blue #44

Eat your hearts out, every other would-be sexy slavegirl.
These slavegirls are the gold standard for sexy slavegirls. No wonder they're laughing.

If Slave Leia from Star Wars is the gold standard for PG-rated slavegirls (and she is) then the gold standard for R-rated slavegirls may well be a little-known (as in, virtually unknown) episode from a defunct adult video TV series (yeah, you heard me right -- a TV series on videotapes) called Electric Blue.

Note the barbaric ornamentation that adorns each and every slavegirl pictured here. All wear necklaces, but each necklace has a different design, but the necklaces are all well within the general theme of barbaric ornamentation. All wear armbands, but each armband is differently designed, but barbaric. One wears a headdress (she's playing Cleopatra) the others do not.

Electric Blue started in the early 1980s (I've seen starting dates that range from 1980 to 1983 and was intended to be a video version of a magazine. It was a series that generally presented a mini-drama about this and that, bits from adult movies, sexy documentary bits and whatever whatnot they could find to fill the hour of programming. It was actually quite successful in the days before widely available adult channels on cable, and of really adult fare on non-adult cable channels. I'm not sure how many videos there were, but there were a lot of them.

The Playboy Channel, hungry for content in its early days, bought the right to broadcast episodes of Electric Blue and that's how I came to possess a tape of Episode 44.

Note that theme of differently designed ornamentation extends to the ornate thongs they wear (seems wrong to call such scanty stuff "clothing"). The amazing thing is how nicely the thongs fit into the general theme of barbaric ornamentation. You know what I think happened? I think somebody visited one of those stores where they sell belly dancer costuming and went nuts. And to very good effect.

In Episode 44, the overarching original story is about a director who's having trouble casting Cleopatra for a nudie flick about Cleopatra and Mark Anthony. The Cleopatra he's hired has the requisite bitchin' bod (Becky LeBeau, noted for her bitchin' bod) but can't act. (I know, I know, since when has that ever been a problem in a nudie flick. Hey, I didn't write the script, I'm just reporting it.)

All that is just to let you know how obscure this bit is. It's just a segment of a single video in a video series that ran into the hundreds, I believe. (I worked Google hard to come up with info about when the series ended or if it ever did end, but information about Electric Blue's history is surprisingly hard to come by, though you can still buy eps online -- It's not like certain Playboy Music Videos I could name.)

Here are three more sexy slavegirls, all wearing differently designed thongs.
Good gravy, someone was on a creative tear with this show.
In the more than 20 years since it aired, there has been nothing to match it.

The key to this episode isn't the plot anyway, it's ALL in the wardrobe. Somebody with some talent and imagination really did a great job of decorating the model/actresses in primitive barbaric attire. Notice I didn't say "slavegirl attire." That's because so far as I can tell, none of the characters are slavegirls, per se. It's all Cleopatra and her retinue. That doesn't matter either, because in any OTHER kind of sword and sandal flick, they'd be obvious slavegirls.

And what slavegirls they are ... sleek, gorgeous, well-endowed babes with great barbaric finery adorning their bodies and next to nothing in the way of clothing concealing them.

Two more thong variations. (The third slavegirl has been seen before, I just liked this image
because of the snake ornament in her hair and the nice profile shot of her breasts.)

The only thing these slavegirls lack is bondage gear, and since none of them are portraying slavegirls, just royalty who run around nekkid all the time, you can't really blame them for the lack of bondage gear.

It's the barbaric finery that interest me. It's not just the casual garbage you see in most flicks: an armband there, a necklace here, a headband elsewhere, with a baggy white tunic covering the body.

Notice the lack of baggy tunic covering this slavegirl's charms.

In Electric Blue 44, all of the women have elaborate necklaces, headdresses, armbands, wrist cuffs and so forth, and instead of shapeless tunics they wear elaborate metallic thongs that look a lot like chastity belts, but probably are not.

When I write about a slavegirl all decorated up for sale at the auction block in a sword and sandal flick, this is what I am thinking about (well, this plus bondage gear). When I write about slavegirls being whored out on a village square, all decorated up to attract men, this is what I am thinking about (plus bondage gear).

This is the measure against which I judge all slavegirl imagery, and generally find it wanting. (See caption below for last line of article.)

Can you blame me?
