When Conan jumps the damsel in distress, he REALLY jumps the damsel in distress! (That's Red Sonja behind him, about to do a little swordwork of her own as she and Conan clear out the minions conducting a human sacrifice.)
I have heard that the Savage Sword of Conan series did jump the DiD toward the end of the series ... the stories got dull, the artwork weak ... you can tell because in the issues after #200, the damsels in distress almost entirely disappear from the covers. It's just Conan fighting. But that still leaves a VERY long run of quality issues of Savage Sword of Conan to go before things get crappy.
